Spell Checking

PageStream can check the spelling of the whole document. It compares your words against those in a dictionary and alerts you when it finds words that are either misspelled or unknown. When it checks the spelling, PageStream will automatically choose the correct dictionary for the words it checks, based on what language has been chosen with the Language attribute. If you are interested in support for a language which is not included, please contact us!

PageStream 5.0 includes the following dictionaries:

To check the spelling of the document, choose ''Check Spelling'' from the ''Edit'' menu. The ''Check Spelling'' dialog box will appear.

When PageStream finds an unknown word, it will display it in the ''Word'' text box and display a pop-up menu with a list of suggested spellings. Either type the correct spelling of the word directly in the ''Word'' text box or choose one suggestion from the ''Suggest'' pop-up menu. If you want to look up a different spelling of the word, type it in the ''Word'' text box and click on ''Look Up''.

To replace the incorrect word with the new one, click on ''Replace'' to replace this occurrence or on ''Replace All'' to replace all the occurrences of the incorrect word right away.

Additionally, you may click on the ''Ignore'' button to ignore this occurrence of the unknown word or on ''Ignore All'' to ignore all future occurrences of that word. Finally, if you want to add the unknown word to the selected dictionary, click on the ''Add'' button.

SectionCustomizing the dictionary
Words added to the dictionary are not saved in the main dictionary file. Your words are stored in a separate file which is used in conjunction with the main dictionary. You can add and delete words from the dictionary with the ''Lookup Word'' command from the ''Edit'' menu.

To look up a word, type it in the ''Word'' text box and click on the ''Lookup'' button. To add it to the selected dictionary, click on the ''Add'' button. To remove it from the selected dictionary, click on the ''Delete'' button.

To add a list of words to the dictionary: You can add an ASCII list of words to a spelling dictionary instead of adding a single word at a time. Choose ''Lookup Word'' from the ''Edit'' menu, select the dictionary you want to add words to in the ''Language'' pop-up menu, then choose ''Batch Add'' from the mini-menu in the upper right hand corner of the dialog box. A file selector will appear for you to choose the file to add. The file should be in ASCII form with characters in the native character set as set in the ''Type'' panel of ''Preferences'', and a tab, paragraph mark or new line character between each of the words. These words will all be added to the user dictionary.

To export a list of words from the dictionary: You can export an ASCII list of words from any dictionary to a text file. Choose ''Lookup Word'' from the ''Edit'' menu, select the dictionary you want to export in the ''Language'' pop-up menu, then choose ''Export'' from the mini-menu in the upper right hand corner of the dialog box. A file selector will appear for you to choose the file to save as. The file will be in ASCII form with characters in the native character set as set in the ''Type'' panel of ''Preferences'', and a tab, paragraph mark or new line character between each of the words. The main dictionary will come first, with the user dictionary following it in the file.

How to create a new «Language».Spelling or «Language».Hyphenation?

Remove or place the current «Language».Spelling, «Language».UserSpelling, «Language».Hyphenation and «Language».UserHyphenation somewhere else. Be sure that in Preferences, tab Type the CharSet is in UTF-8 when the text is also in UTF-8!
Remark: this doesn't work with PGS 5.0.4.4, so I changed the words to West-European (Windows) with Microsoft's Word, and the CharSet to Windows in PGS.

For Spelling: menu Edit/Lookup Word… Make sure that the Language is the one you want, in this case: «Language». Click on the down arrow (pop up menu), select: Batch add. While it imports the word «Language» blinks.
When ready (the word Correct! is shown) search in Softlogik/Engines «Language».UserSpelling and change that into «Language».Spelling.

For Hyphenation: menu Edit/Define/Hyphenation… Make sure that the Language is the one you want, in this case: «Language». Click on the down arrow (popup menu), select: Batch add. This goes fast (nothing is blinking while adding!).
When ready Save it (!) and search in Softlogik/Engines «Language».UserHyphenation and change that into «Language».Hyphenation.

If needed: replace the 'old' «Language».UserSpelling and «Language».UserHyphenation in the folder Engines again.

Remark:
«Language» can be: Nederlands,English, etc.
