Pagestream Mac 5.0.5.8 demo

Bug: option to shrink bitmaps is not working when saving as pdf.
Example:
* 9.6 MB size of Pagestream document with embedded 200 dpi TIFF color image.
* 12.3 MB size of saved pdf document saved from Pagestream with settings: shrink bitmaps turned on, max dpi 150, resize to 100 dpi, all fonts embedded.
* 565 kb size of aforementioned pdf file, loaded into Mac Preview, saved again with custom filter reducing bitmaps to 100 dpi.

What are you trying to say? That you can shrink a pdf from PGS even better in another program?

Well I've seen this, but not as drastically as you have. I've seen half of its (PGS->pdf)size.
I am not sure if that is only because of the less dpi bitmaps.
In Adobes Acrobat there is an option: Save as: Adobe PDF-files optimized (*.pdf), which does this.

So, is it a bug?

Yes it's a bug. I'm not saying another program can shrink it better. Just that Pagestream is not shrinking the bitmaps at all, even though I had it turned on. So the setting doesn't work. Compare the sizes of the files I listed. The saved pdf file is larger than the original Pagestream document. Now look at the small size of the same pdf file, after I loaded the 12.3 MB pdf file into Preview, then saved it out with a filter set to reduce the bitmap image to 100 dpi. Quite the difference, wouldn't you say?

I did finally figure this out. If you scaled/resized the picture in PageStream, it gets confused. Leave it at 100% and this option worked correctly.
