Computer where I had problems is Widows XP Service Pack 3. Display
resolution 1280 x 1024

did a new install of PageStream5.04.46 on a different computer. (Widows
XP Service Pack 3; display resolution 1440 x 900). PageStream functioned
as I thought it should. The Pagestream5.ini. created on this install had
no SETWINDOWDEFAULTS command line and was approximately half the size of
the one causing me problems.

From the Pagestream5.ini, that caused me problems, I deleted the
following line.

SETWINDOWDEFAULTS AT 1272 883 SIZE 956 678

Launched the program. It functioned as I thought it should for both
creating a new document and loading a document. This line apears to
cause the problem in starting the program. If the x y”parameters are the
upper left corner of the window, the window will be in the lower right
hand corner.AT x value was examined with the following results:

AT x Result/Comments

(pixels)

0 functioned as I thought it should

300 functioned as I thought it should

600 The document window was reduced in size, and in lower right corner.
Access by scrolling.

1253 The document window was reduced in size, and in lower right corner.
Access by scrolling. Document window smaller than above.

1254 Pagestream 5 encountered problems on opening document or creating
new document. Program shut down immediate.

1272 As above, but program encountered problems and shut down only after
scrolling document window into view.

The Pagestream5.ini file that caused problems was transferred the new
install, and x”set to 0 and creating a new document caused the program
to experience difficulties and shut down. On this computer the y
resolution is lower, and the y value ptobably caused the failure.

The above may be interesting, but the real problem is why the high
values fot x y”were placed in the Pagestream5.ini file. It may have been
a calculation error, or there was a problem terminating the program. A
temporary fix is to remove the SETWINDOWDEFAULTS from the Pagestream5.in
file.
