I have just installed PgS 5.0.4.4pro on my PC running Vista Home Premium. I entered reg/password and selected the fonts directory at C:\Windows\Fonts. I have to do this because if I don't the only font that appears is Arial. I open a new document, create a text frame, select a font from the pop-up, click in the text frame. As soon as I type a character PgS crashes with the details below. If I type a frameless text object, that works fine. If I try to load any documents, I see the same crash. AFAIK the docs I am trying to load have text frames. This comment from Dirk Harlaar in the PgS Support ML was the solution for me too:

Quote:

I had the same problem with pgs 5.0.4.3 pro running the same vista, thought
it was fixed in PgS 5.0.4.4, but here is what I did to overcome the problem:
In the pgs preferences, under type, I set the font type to be used to Arial
Regular (was set to Arial IIRC, which doesn't exist in Win Vista). After I
done that, everything was fine. Haven't had PgS 5.0.4.4 crash on me since I
installed this version, and am using it daily.

It's really a workaround for a fundamental issue with fonts under Vista.

Note about the Arial font appearing: using a fresh PgS install Arial does not appear. I think it may have in my case because of the font substitution file from my XP install I had copied across.

I think what you are saying is that having a default font that is not available causes PageStream to crash. Otherwise this is a repeat of bug #210.

This actually has been fixed in a recent Mac release and was a global problem with default fonts specified that did not exist. Also, the fact that you get Arial Regular instead of Arial when you add that font using PageStream's font prefs is also fixed.

Related, you can remove font paths that contain fonts that are currently in use things don't fall apart (why you would want to do that I don't know Wink

Thanks for the report!
