If there seems to be something wrong with PageStream (not responding, doesn't allow to open a document let alone opening a new document, etc), the best thing to do is delete PageStream5.ini or PageStream5.prefs (or rename it), depending on your OS (Operating System).
Like this (Windows 7 or Vista):

Before running PGS again, you should delete PageStream5.ini.
If you not sure about this, you could copy PageStream5.ini on another, save, place.
But then delete PageStream5.ini at C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\PageStream5\

Now run PGS again. You don't have to install PGS as new , just running it will cause (now) a new PageStream5.ini.
Of course you have to fill in the name, registration and activation key.

Afterwards, when PageStream is behaving again, you could copy parts of the old PageStream5.ini (or .prefs).
PageStream5.ini / PageStream5.prefs is just a text file!
