For example, if the backup path in preferences is set to ~/Documents/PageStream/Backups no backup is actually saved. The path must be fully specified, e.g., /home/tim/Documents/PageStream/Backups

Now ~ can be used at the start of paths to specify the home directory. On Windows, this is the users My Document folder. Related, backup folder is now created if it does not exist.
