Layers do not function correctly in 5.0.4.21 beta. For example, a layer within a layer cannot be renamed, regardless of which layer is active and which layer is selected in the layer palette. Only layers in the document root layer can apparently be edited.

For example, create an object, then create a layer containing that object. Name it Layer1. Create a new layer containing that layer. Name it Layer2. When editing the layer information for Layer1 (which can be identified as the information dialog identifies the name being edited as "Layer1" it is Layer2 that is updated.
