As it's sometimes hard to select objects, it would be a nice thing to have them listed on the layer palette. Naming objects would be a cool thing too, but I think it's more important to be able to click on listed objects in the layer palette to select them in the document window.

Oh and just another related thing:
Wouldn't it make sense to be able to move an already selected object (like a circle that isn't filled) just by pointing inside the cicle rather than pointing on the line of the circle? Those lines are often hard to hit.

Ability to name an object might be useful in scripting, but showing all objects in the layers palette would be overwhelming.

---------------
Smaller objects are best selected by zooming in. Also, the tab button cycles between selected object while in object mode.

Also, if you have the ALT key down when you grab an object, it will force the object to be moved instead of resized, and if you click and hold on an object that is not selected, it will select and start moving the object.

Clicking on the inside of an unfilled object is not a good idea. It would require moving boxes/frames to the back and if the object is outside the visible window it would be impossible to know what is selected or that you even selected something.

I'll accept it, but the idea has as many problems as it does advantages.

Why would showing all objects be overwhelming? You'd only need to add a plus-symbol left of the object count. Clicking on it would unfold the object list for that layer. Multiselect on that list could do he corresponding selection in the document window.
I think that would be a nice solution to edit objects that are stacked. I usually had that selection problem when I was creating CD labels because you need to place the objects precisely and usually lock them. Accidently selecting/moving the wrong object results in annoying unlock requesters Wink An object list would even allow to lock objects by making them unselectable in the document window. They would be visible but you can't modify them before you unlocked them via that list.

Hmmm... I guess this is why bugs should only list one item. I don't have a
comment on the actual feature request at present, but the side issue of
selecting an unfilled object by clicking inside of it is pure evil.

Some points:
1. As Deron has pointed out that causes no end of problems if you have, for example, an unfilled path around a text frame. Your solution would make it impossible to select the text frame without first unselecting the path. Counterintuitive as I have yet to see any gui with "sticky" selection.

2. You can already move them via the edit palette

3. You can increase magnification if the line is too fine to click on at present magnification.
